Discussion: Understanding Lead Funnels
For this week’s tech talk we had a special guest. Heath Cejka is the founder of Hunter Marketing, where he focused on marketing strategies for businesses, especially around creating sales and lead funnels.
What is it?
A lead funnel is a representation of the journey leads make from becoming aware of your services/brand to becoming paying customers. There are 4 stages in this process; Awareness, Interest, Decision & Action. Companies use lead funnels to optimize their marketing efforts in hopes of making their processes more efficient.
How is it done?
Heath talks about the different strategies used to get traffic into your funnel. Facebook ads, LinkedIn ads, Adwords and YouTube ads get messages/banners in front of users who are looking up content. Once that traffic is generated, they are sent to an Opt-in page where they are given an E-book, a report, or a mini video series. This gives the customer value and helps them understand the product or service that you are looking to sell. Once people opt in and become leads, they get the promised content such as the PDF report or E-book and become part of your email chain.
In order to create an effective lead funnel, you must analyze your audience, define strategies that cater to them specifically and remove any methods are that not working. The end result should be a funnel that works effectively and efficiently. During the awareness stage, the future customer faces the problem your product/service can solve. The interest stage is where customers are searching for more specific information, this is where having ads are helpful. The decision stage is where you need to sell to the customer that your product/service is better than the competition. Finally, the action stage is where the lead needs to be converted to a paying customer.

In your experience, do lead funnels work well with high value services or a product?
For a service, that is when you would use some sort of lead funnel. Instead of doing a calendar invite in the funnel, you can swap it out to an application. Tell them about the service, have the client fill out the application and you can filter out the type of client you want to work with once you have a pool to choose from.
What is the advantage of using a funnel versus doing it on my website?
The main strategy behind a funnel is making it more effective for the client. The layout of the content is important because if a client only has one option on a page, this gets rid of any distractions. Each page is meant for one thing and one thing only, if there are other services that you want to promote, you can always create more funnels.
Do you help businesses improve their conversion rates?
Yes. This gives businesses an online way to recruit traffic and get more clients to them. Funnels can be built in front of customers and helps them plan their strategies. The kind of content depends on what type of business you are doing.
